The Ultrasonic Testing (UT) for the Petrochemical Industry course aims to instruct ultrasonic technicians in the oil, gas, and petrochemical sector, specifically those involved in acquiring thickness readings using ultrasonic instrumentation. Candidates must be ultrasonic level II certified through their representative company or provide proof of certification. The 24-hour course, led by an ultrasonic NDE Level II, covers basic ultrasonic principles, including definitions, velocity, wavelength, frequency, longitudinal waves, attenuation, reflection, sources of energy, transducers, calibration, and evaluation of base materials. Workshop exercises conducted in the NDE lab involve calibration, transducer selection, corrosion detection, pitting detection, lamination detection, and mapping. The course concludes with candidates sitting for an exam, scanning 10 seeded specimens with varying thickness and materials, including carbon, low-alloy, and stainless steel. The exam includes specimens with coatings on the examination surface. Successful candidates receive a certificate of completion. Overall, the course combines theoretical instruction, hands-on workshop exercises, and practical testing to ensure comprehensive knowledge and skills in ultrasonic testing for the petrochemical industry.
