Course Description

This course introduces the concepts of risk and risk management and their applications in facilities and plant settings and with industrial activities in general. The course addresses the use of risk-informed decision-making and risk management through lecture and workshops. Participants will practice use of decision-making thought processes throughout the course to better define risk through quantification of consequence and frequency.

You will be introduced to risk analysis tools such as consequence modeling, layer of protection analysis, fault tree, event tree, and quantified risk analysis. Exercises illustrate when to use a specific tool, key concepts of each tool, and how to interpret the results.

You will study managing residual risk in operations including defining and maintaining safety critical equipment (mechanical integrity, safety instrumented systems), management of change, safe work practices, and emergency management. People management aspects of sustaining process safety performance are discussed (human factors, safety culture).

This course will occur Tuesday, June 25, 2024, through Thursday, June 27, 2024 from 7:30am – 4:30pm with a one-hour lunch break each day.
