Prerequisites: Proof of high school diploma/GED completion. Student Success, BLS CPR, Immunizations, Drug and Background check through Precheck.
Note: Clinical scrubs are required. Co-requisite job readiness in health care 16hrs, Phlebotomy Practicum and BLS CPR (job readiness and CPR to be completed prior to Practicum). Students are involved in skill development to perform a variety of blood collection methods using proper techniques and universal precautions. This course includes vacuum collection devices, syringes, capillary skin puncture, butterfly needles and blood culture, and specimen collection on adults, children, and infants. Emphasis on infection prevention, proper patient identification, labeling of specimens and quality assurance, specimen handling, processing, and accessioning. Topics include professionalism, ethics, and medical terminology.
